A Lonely Place
In this work, I continue to explore the concepts of isolation and, as the title suggests, loneliness. It started as part of my "balloon" series but evolved. Clearly, the death of my mother and the symbolism of the grave really marked me. I needed to process it, to understand, to express, as best as I could, the utter devastation that I felt in her loss. So here she is, lying there under the cold stone under a big African sky that she loved. A sky that, I suppose, she won't get to see again. Death is a lonely place. You will also see that my approach is getting more and more painterly. I have explored the soft tones and smoothness long enough. It is time for a little rage to shine through.
