Escalation

This is a diptych that had been sitting in the back of my mind for a while. I wanted something both ominous and surreal. So, what we have here is a snow covered landscape, pristine and desolate set against a darkened woodland/forest/mountain range/wall and a single lonely ladder. As this painting was commissioned by Andrew, and I used to play quite a bit of Runequest with him, I thought that it might be nice to give him a bit of a tribute: In the last session we played, his character and the other members of the party, were surrounded by undead dwarves. Their last refuge, in the middle of a winter snowstorm, was on top of a wooden lookout tower. Needless to say, they all got eaten but the session was a real nail-biter. I wish I could tell you that the inspiration for this was something more profound and meaningful but, there you go.
